While you certainly have easy access to skills and ways to boost them, there are many roles that you can fill in the party. It’s very easy to think of investigator as a skill monkey, but that’s simplifying things a little too much. When building an investigator, there are two things you want to consider before you build: What is my role outside of combat? and What is my role inside of combat? What is my role outside of combat? However, because they’ve built a class that’s so focused on skills and out-of-combat utility, the builds tend to be a little different than characters that you might have seen before. It appears that Pathfinder has learned from the bard and given a class that wants to be a skill monkey good class abilities involving skills.
